Complexes of Dichlorogermylene with Phosphine/Sulfoxide-Supported Carbone as Ligand

Due to their remarkable electronic features, recent years have witnessed the emergence of carbones L₂C, which consist in two donating L ligands coordinating a central carbon atom bearing two lone pairs. In this context, the phosphine/sulfoxide-supported carbone 4 exhibits a strong nucleophilic character, and here, we describe its ability to coordinate dichlorogermylene. Two original stable coordination complexes were obtained and fully characterized in solution and in the solid state by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis, respectively. At 60 °C, in the presence of 4, the Ge(II)-complex 5 undergoes a slow isomerization that transforms the bis-ylide ligand into an yldiide.     

Chemical Behaviour of a Prototype Boryl(phosphino)carbene

We recently disclosed the synthesis of a novel “push–pull” boryl(phosphino)carbene. To determine the influence of this substitution pattern on the chemical behaviour, a study into the reactivity of the prototype ( 1 ) of this new family of B(sp²)‐substituted phosphinocarbenes was undertaken. Carbene 1 exhibits one of the most common intramolecular rearrangements of singlet carbenes, involving a 1,2‐mesityl shift, and typical [2+1] cycloaddition reactions with electron‐poor acrylonitrile. A pronounced α,β‐ambiphilic character was also shown by the reaction of 1 with benzaldehyde, leading to phosphorylalkene 4 . Due to its specific electronic properties, carbene 1 also exhibits unprecedented reactivity with chloroacrylonitrile, enabling the formation of bicyclo[1.1.0]phosphetanium salt 6 and borylcyclopropene 9 , which have been fully characterised by NMR spectroscopy and X‐ray crystallography.     

Preparation of Stereoregular Isotactic Poly(mandelic acid) through Organocatalytic Ring‐Opening Polymerization of a Cyclic O‐Carboxyanhydride

Poly(mandelic acid) (PMA) is an aryl analogue of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and a biodegradable analogue of polystyrene. The preparation of stereoregular PMA was realized using a pyridine/mandelic acid adduct (Py?MA) as an organocatalyst for the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of the cyclic O‐carboxyanhydride (manOCA). Polymers with a narrow polydispersity index and excellent molecular‐weight control were prepared at ambient temperature. These highly isotactic chiral polymers exhibit an enhancement of the glass‐transition temperature (T_g) of 15 °C compared to the racemic polymer, suggesting potential future application as high‐performance commodity and biomedical materials.     

Polyesters by a Radical Pathway: Rationalization of the Cyclic Ketene Acetal Efficiency

Radical ring-opening polymerization (rROP) of cyclic ketene acetals (CKAs) combines the advantages of both ring-opening polymerization and radical polymerization thereby allowing the robust production of polyesters coupled with the mild polymerization conditions of a radical process. rROP was recently rejuvenated by the possibility to copolymerize CKAs with classic vinyl monomers leading to the insertion of cleavable functionality into a vinyl-based copolymer backbone and thus imparting (bio)degradability. Such materials are suitable for a large scope of applications, particularly within the biomedical field. The competition between the ring-opening and ring-retaining propagation routes is a major complication in the development of efficient CKA monomers, ultimately leading to the use of only four monomers that are known to completely ring-open under all experimental conditions. In this article we investigate the radical ring-opening polymerization of model CKA monomers and demonstrate by the combination of DFT calculations and kinetic modeling using PREDICI software that we are now able to predict in silico the ring-opening ability of CKA monomers.     

Toward the Rational Design of Galactosylated Glycoclusters That Target Pseudomonas aeruginosa Lectin A (LecA): Influence of Linker Arms That Lead to Low‐Nanomolar Multivalent Ligands

Anti‐infectious strategies against pathogen infections can be achieved through antiadhesive strategies by using multivalent ligands of bacterial virulence factors. LecA and LecB are lectins of Pseudomonas aeruginosa implicated in biofilm formation. A series of 27 LecA‐targeting glycoclusters have been synthesized. Nine aromatic galactose aglycons were investigated with three different linker arms that connect the central mannopyranoside core. A low‐nanomolar (K_d=19 nm , microarray) ligand with a tyrosine‐based linker arm could be identified in a structure–activity relationship study. Molecular modeling of the glycoclusters bound to the lectin tetramer was also used to rationalize the binding properties observed.

New Penta(tetrathiafulvalenyl)[60]fullerenes for Supramolecular Materials

New penta(organo)fullerenes donor–acceptor systems bearing five tetrathiafulvalene recognition units have been synthesized to promote self‐assemblies similar in appearance to shuttlecocks nested into each other thanks to the conical host cavity created around the fullerene together with the π–π and electronic interactions.     

The one phase free boundary problem for the -Laplacian with non-constant Bernoulli boundary condition

Our objective, here, is to generalize our earlier results on the existence of classical convex solution to a free boundary problem with a Bernoulli-type boundary gradient condition and with the -Laplacian as the governing operator. The main theorems of this paper assert that the exterior and the interior free boundary problem with a Bernoulli law, i.e. with a prescribed pressure on the ``free' streamline of the flow, have convex solutions provided the initial domains are convex. The continuous function is subject to certain convexity properties. In our earlier results we have considered the case of constant . In the lines of the proof of the main results we also prove the semi-continuity (up to the boundary) of the gradient of the -capacitary potentials in convex rings, with boundaries.

     

Stable (amino)(phosphino)carbenes: difunctional molecules

(Amino)(phosphino)carbenes are stable due to the donation of the nitrogen lone pair, the phosphino group remains strongly pyramidalized. Reactions can be performed selectively at the carbene center, but also at the phosphorus center leading to new stable carbenes. These difunctional molecules can be considered as hybrid ligands.     

Vibration induced electric dipole in a weakly bound molecular complex

A strong electric susceptibility is measured as a function of temperature in a molecular dimer which is weakly bound by a pair of hydrogen bonds. This system is a remarkable example where the dominant term in the susceptibility is due to a vibration induced electric dipole. As a consequence, the averaged square of the dipole moment varies linearly with the temperature and the susceptibility does not follow the usual 1/T Curie law. this spectacular effect demonstrates the importance of dynamics to interpret the properties of weakly bound complexes.
